When our founders Achim Weiß and Andreas Gauger, both former members of the board at 1&1 Internet, started ProfitBricks in 2010, the goal was to provide virtual data centers for corporate customers so easily, flexibly and efficiently that they could combine the advantages of cloud computing with the established look and feel of a traditional data center.

After two years of development, the result is our next generation Infrastructure as a Service offering with the unique graphical ProfitBricks Data Center Designer, which has been on the market since May 2012. Many hundreds of customers already used this innovative service in the first year of operation. In 2012, it won Computerwoche’s Best in Cloud Award and in 2013 the Capital Cloud Award. ProfitBricks IaaS developed from several benchmark tests as a performance winner. In August 2013, we halved the prices of the two core components cores and RAM, and since then have been able to say that we offer “twice the performance for half the price”, in comparison with the competition.

In 1995, Achim Weiss broke off his studies to co-found the web hosting company "Schlund+Partner". The company "Schlund+Partner" later became the 1&1 web hosting product line. From 1995 to 2008, he was the responsible technical director for several important projects:

  • the largest web hosting platform in the world
  • the second largest DSL platform
  • a video on-demand delivery network
  • the largest eMail backend in Europe
  • a universal billing system

Petra-Maria Grohs

Petra-Maria Grohs


Petra-Maria Grohs has worked in the management team at ProfitBricks since 2011. She’s responsible for Sales, Professional Services and Human Resources department. She endeavours to establish the ProfitBricks IaaS within the German market, as well as expansion of the international business in Europe and Asia.

She has extensive technical and leadership experience gained through IT industry companies in senior management positions. Among other engagements, she was a Branch Manager at Sun and answerable for 130 people; responsible for the operations of a medium-sized software provider; and also managed a team of 20 sales employees at Oracle as a sales manager. She also worked at Compaq in her first managerial position as well at Commodore, where she began her sales career as a systems consultant.

In addition to her professional pursuits, social values and respect in dealing with others are very important subjects to her. She has been involved in various social projects for years. Professionalism is paramount to her, so she combines her professional and social work under her motto of Mutual esteem turns work into professional work.

Uwe Geier

Uwe Geier

Head of Operations

Uwe Geier has been with ProfitBricks since 2012 and is responsible for our Support, Network, Security and Data Center Operations.

With more than 15 years' experience in the open source environments and with a extensiv understanding of Linux in particular, he consistently combines modern, innovative concepts to proven techniques and solutions for successful technical results.

During his many years with a Shared Service Provider in telecommunications business (most recently as CIO and Head of IT), he was responsible, inter alia, for implementing service management processes based on ITIL, Enterprise, and KVM virtualisation, as well as building a private cloud.

Before this, he gained extensive experience as a systems and solutions architect and was responsible for the successful completion of numerous, diverse projects (in-country and internationally). He is a certified “ITIL Expert” and an approved education trainer for application development, system integration and IT system apprentices.

Jens Plogsties

Jens Plogsties

Head of Development Center

Jens Plogsties handles our Development Department and oversees the development, expansion and quality control of our company products, in particular our award-winning Data Center Designer GUI.

He’s gathered tremendous amounts of experience at previous engagements, including companies such as Omicron, Tektronix, Nokia and Siemens. He led multiple development teams at Omnicron as the “Director of Research and Development” and was answerable for the entire monitoring solutions development product. At Tektronix he was “Head of System Architecture” and defined the complete structure for their monitoring solution, while simultaneously building an outstanding quality assurance process for their software system.

He is an expert in Scrum agile software engineering and has extensive experience in project management, and utilises these at ProfitBricks.

Axel Wendt

Axel Wendt

Head of Professional Services & Internal Auditor

Axel Wendt is responsible for Professional Services at ProfitBricks, including portfolio management, sales support, technical customer care and needs analysis, design proposals, migration support and planning and includes customer project implementation, individual training, Webinars, service management, SLA reporting and customer request management within his range of duties. He is also the ISO 20000 auditor at ProfitBricks for internal audit processes.

With a degree in communications technology and over 20 years of international management experience in IT, service providers and the telecommunications industry, he has extensive technical and sales experience. Most recently, he was the “Director of European Data Center Operation” at Interoute and responsible for expanding their data centers throughout Europe, including the managed hosting operation, cloud platform, OS / application management and 2nd/3rd level support. He also had senior management positions with PSINet (Internet service provider) GlobalOne (global telecom carrier in the US) and T-Moblie (mobile network operator).

Your responsibilities:

  • Responsible for your product backlog regarding alignment to company roadmap and strategic development of the platform
  • Consult management to prioritize company roadmap towards delivery of constant value which helps to generate revenue
  • Take leadership for projects involving multiple disciplines and coordinate priorities with other product owners and departments
  • Communicate with developers, operations and business stakeholders to clarify their needs and consolidate this information into a shared vision
  • Translate customer needs into a technical level that once realized result in business opportunities
  • Decide on how to properly define user stories for a constant stream of development sprints

Your qualifications: 

  • Several years of experience as product owner or project manager in IT departments or similar environments
  • Experience as a software developer who developed into project management/ product ownership is a strong benefit and familiar with how productive software works and is build
  • Several years of experience in technical projects and agile development environments
  • A customer driven mind-set to deliver value for users in the field of B2B product
  • Strong organisational and communication skills in a multi-project environment and drive to get things done
  • Project management capabilities when it comes to leading projects requiring changes in different product artefacts
  • Working in ITSM organisations and processes
  • Taking initiative with a pragmatic, hands-on attitude and motivated to work in a fast-paced environment with flat hierarchies
  • Excellent communicator with fluent spoken and written English
